The 212th Attack Battalion serves in the Grand Army of the Republic under the leadership of Commander Cody. The soldiers of the 212th have fought in numerous battles across the galaxy and participated in the Republic attack on the planet Utapau. During this battle, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine issued "Order 66", which called for the elimination of the entire Jedi Order. Obeying the order from high command, the 212th troopers unsuccessfully attempted to eliminate General Obi-Wan Kenobi.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

In the page below, items listed in blue are recommended features that will improve the quality of the costume. Items listed in red are intended to further enhance the finished costume.


This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.
  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GML's and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.
Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

212th Battalion Helmet.jpg Helmet
  • Realistic style Clone Phase II helmet.
    • Some "name brand" helmets may be unacceptable.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • Helmet mohawk on dome.
    • The mowhawk has a Light Orange wrap.
      • The wrap comes to a center point just above the brow trim.
      • The rear is squared off, approximately ¼ inch above the grey indent helmet band.
      • At its widest, the wrap is approximately 2 inches wide at center point on both sides.
  • Black eye lens.
  • Helmet frown is painted charcoal grey.
    • Wire or plastic mesh is utilized inside the helmet to cover the open pieces of the frown.
  • Ear caps are painted a dark gray.
  • Vertical hash marks on each side of helmet cheeks are dark blue.
  • Primer grey indented helmet band around back of dome.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Helmet has the appearance of a neck ring.

  • Neck seal is black in color with vertical ribbing or being smooth in appearance.
  • No logos or labels are visible.
    • If the seal is not incorporated as part of the undersuit, a balaclava or other similar covering is acceptable.

  • Black non-textured material, either one-piece or two-piece construction with no visible zippers or logos.

  • Realistic style Clone Shoulder Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • A soft edged triangular shape is placed on the top of the each shoulder.
  • Triangular shapes are a continuation of the chest armor pattern.
    • Triangles are painted Light Orange.
  • Shoulders are tear drop in shape with all rounded edges.
  • Shoulder armor is not symmetrical.
    • The armor slightly curves back at the bottom of the shoulder.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Realistic style Clone Upper Arm Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • The arms are painted from the lower inside corner of the tricep to the front inside area of the bicep in a half circle pattern.
    • The top of the circle is about half way into center of the outside of the upper arm.
    • These are colored Light Orange, but the under edges remain white.
  • Armor has a dimple on the lower area of the back of the arm.
  • The outside of the bicep has a hard line edge at the front that turns in.
  • The inside of the upper arm is rounded.
  • Armor is seamless.
    • No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Realistic style elbow armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Elbow straps have a raised detail line at the top and bottom of the strap.
  • Armor has two parallel dashed detail slots on each outside edge of elbow at the strap connection.
  • Elbows are mirror images of each other with a notched area on the outside of the elbow above the detail marks.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Realistic style Clone Forearm Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Both left and right forearms are mirror images of each other.
  • Right forearm has a compad with 8 small buttons,1 Large main button, and 1 slightly smaller rectangular button.
  • Forearm tops have a flattened triangular area with a ridge that comes to a point at the top of the forearm.
  • The top of the forearm has a bone ridge.
  • Armor is seamless.
    • No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Compad has detail antenna on its left.

  • Realistic style hand plates.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Hand plates have a top curving ridge that come to a point over the index or middle finger just past the main knuckle of the hand.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

Generic-black-gloves.jpg Gloves
  • Realistic style Clone Gloves.
  • Gray over the wrist gloves made of leather, nylon, or other low pile fabrics.
  • Gloves cover any exposed skin.
  • Gloves do not show any labels or logos once the armor is on.

212th Battalion Chest.jpg Chest Armor
  • Realistic style Clone Chest Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • Two detail slots on right breast.
  • Drawing about 4 - 5 inches down the shoulder straps, a Light Orange triangular shape blocking is placed.
    • The triangle comes to a point on the center of the chest, approximately 1 - 2 inches above the pectoral meeting line.
    • The rolled edges remain white.
  • The sides of the armor are blocked Light Orange.
    • Starting about 2 inches into the ribcage return curve, it hard lines to the corner of the chest and soft curves into the armpit.
  • Chest and back plate match together at the sides with no open gap.
    • A seam line is present.
  • Shoulder straps are slotted into the detail ridges of the top connection points.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

212th Battalion Back.jpg Back Armor
  • Realistic style Clone Back Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • At about the lower corner of the rear detail box, a soft curve is placed to about 3 inches into the lower box lines.
  • From there a hard line curve to 2 inches into the small of the back is placed.
    • This area is blocked Light Orange.
  • Rear center plate has detailed area that contains 4 circles.
    • Under the circles at the left side of the back there are two parallel lines.
    • On the right side of the back there is a squared detail.
  • Chest and back plate match together at the sides with no open gap.
    • A seam line is present.
  • Shoulder straps are slotted into the detail ridges of the top connection points.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Highly detailed resin insert replaces softer details.

  • Realistic style Clone Abdomen Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Four 1/4" diameter holes per side on indents of abdomen.
    • Eight holes total.
  • Abdomen section wraps around the wearers body and is sealed at the sides or back.
  • Abdomen armor is completely contained under the chest and back armor.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Seam line along sides or back has no gap.

  • Realistic style Clone Belt, Belt boxes, and Detonator.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • The inner details of the front of the belt are painted Light Orange.
    • There are three slots for this.
  • Ammo Belt includes belt boxes and rear detonator.
    • (8) boxes total are attached to the belt.
    • (4) on each side of abdomen.
  • Detonator is centered on the back of belt.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Belt Boxes are notched and fitted flush with the details of the belt.
  • Left Rear belt box has two square buttons in the top left corner and an equal symbol detail at the bottom right.
  • Right Rear belt box has a bar with two small cylinders centered with an equal symbol detail on the bottom left.
  • From the rear two belt boxes the belt has a ribbed detailed appearance.

  • Realistic style Clone Codpiece Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • Cod piece has a painted, Light Orange panel.
  • Panel shape starts at the top of the cup line, and squares off to the belt.
  • Codpiece and Posterior armor connect at the hips.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Hips are connected together via a snap or screw.
OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
  • Hips are connected via a snap with the correct detailed shape of the armor at the connection point.

  • Realistic style Clone Posterior Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Posterior armor and Codpiece connect at the hips.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Hips are connected together via a snap or screw.
OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
  • Hips are connected via a snap with the correct detailed shape of the armor at the connection point.

  • Realistic style Clone Thigh Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • The top half of the thighs are painted Light Orange on a diagonal with the lower end of the angle on the inside of the thighs.
  • Front of thigh armor has a flat triangular area near the knee.
    • From the top of the triangle, a ridge line travels up the front of the thigh to the top edge.
  • Rear of the thigh has an indention.
  • Armor is seamless.
    • No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Outside lower edge of the thigh comes to a point.
    • Inner lower edge is rounded.

  • Realistic style Clone Knee Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • Each knee is cut in half on the diagonal and painted Light Orange.
    • The diagonal starts at upper inside, and ends on the lower outside, of the knee.
  • Knees wrap around the front of the leg.
  • From top center a raised detail line is present.
  • Knees are strapped to the leg via a white strap with a raised center area that wraps around the leg and connects on both sides of the Knee.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Center strap is primer gray.
  • Connection between the knee and the strapping has a detail clip.

  • Realistic style Clone Lower Leg Armor.
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white, with Light Orange detail.
  • Starting at the inside calf muscle, in a diagonal wrap, the lower portion of the lower legs is painted Light Orange.
  • Lower Legs are mirror images of each other.
  • The front of the armor has a triangular detail at the top of the leg and a hard ridge line down the front of the shin.
  • Back of the lower legs have an indentation just under the calf that travels down to the ankle.
  • The outside of the calf is closed.
    • Calf can have an access area on the inside of the leg.
  • Light Orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Calves are seamless and have a trap door access through the indent in the rear of the lower leg.

Clone shoes copy.jpg Boots
  • White, ankle high or tall enough to cover the ankle and eliminate any black undersuit visible at the ankle.
  • Boots are lace-less.
  • The boots have armor detail to include a natural seam at the toe and a strap that goes over the top of the foot with two protruding disks at each side of the strap.
  • There are no markings or labels from the shoe makers.
  • Boot soles are flat.
  • Boot soles are colored primer grey.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

DC15 carbine.jpg DC-15S Blaster

Manufactured by BlasTech Industries the DC-15S is smaller in scale than the DC-15A blaster rifle. Although it has a shorter range than that of the "A" model, it is easier to handle with a higher rate of fire. It features a folding stock for braced firing.

  • Realistic Clone Style DC-15S Blaster.
  • Blaster may be scratch built out of plastic, wood, metal or cast in resin.
  • Blaster has realistic Episode II or Episode III details:
    • Wire frame sight.
    • Folding stock.
    • Twelve (12) radiator fins evenly spaced along the length of barrel.
    • Igniter detail knobs.
    • Charge magazine clip on right side.
  • Total length is approximately 26" (66 cm).
  • Because of the scale, the Hasbro version is incorrect.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Charge magazine detail on clip is metal to gun metal grey in color.
  • Detail bolts and screws are metal to gun metal grey in color.
  • Igniter knobs have some copper coloring.
  • Blaster is weathered.
OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
  • Functioning Blue LED is installed in barrel.

DC15 rifle.jpg DC-15A Blaster Rifle

Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DC-15A is a tibanna gas, cartridge powered weapon. Hyper-ionized blue plasma bolts are more than capable of penetrating armored units. Exceptionally effective against both droids and contemporary targets.

  • Realistic Clone Style DC-15A Blaster Rifle.
  • Blaster rifle is scratch built out of plastic, wood, metal or cast in resin.
  • Blaster has realistic Episode II or Episode III details:
    • Flip up sight in down position.
    • (10) radiator fins evenly spaced along the length of barrel.
    • Power setting adjuster detail lever.
    • Sniper Scope attached under rifle in storage position.
    • Charge magazine clip on left side.
    • Igniter detail knobs.
  • Total length is approximately 55 inches (139.7 cm).
  • Because of the scale, the Hasbro version is not allowed.
